The only Malay privileges that desperately needs reviewing are
those associated with the Malays' united national organisation,
otherwise known as UMNO. It is UMNO privileges that Suqiu
should voice concern over, if their 17 points are to be read the way
the dyslexic UMNO Youth's have. It is these self proclaimed
privileges that provides carte blanche responsible for cronyism,
nepotism, and the patronage system that vilifies this land that
wants to claim it can. It is with the UMNO privilege that grants first
choice for any profit making opportunity that stems from any policy
the government makes. Priority is yours with the UMNO privilege. It
is with the UMNO privilege that all flimsy applications will ride high
on the pile of more credible applicants. It is with the UMNO
privileges that a person could be placed in high positions without
having to have any plausible qualification to do so. You don't even
have to be elected for public office. Or in more extreme cases,
even nominated. They're just there, courtesy of the UMNO privilege.
The losers are not so because of their lack in merit or credibility.
They are just not UMNO.
It is with the UMNO privilege that a voice could be heard throughout
this land and beyond, without having the onus of having to make
any sense of it first. After all, it is only with the UMNO privilege that
the disseminators are where they are. What they say goes across
the stratosphere, what disagrees ends up on the Internet. And they
could always brand them as whatever they want because they're
UMNO, and their privileges ensures that they will be the only one
heard.
UMNO privileges will guarantee the higher of the double standards
over the other citizens. When you're UMNO, you could go out and
exercise whichever rights stated in the Federal Constitution and
rest assure of not being rained upon by acid or get the living crap
beaten out of you, or be muted. And you don't even have to obtain a
permit.
And should anyone question the unfairness of these privileges,
there's always the guise of being the government. With that, UMNO
and only UMNO get to campaign on TV, radio, take out
advertisements untouched, and have images of their personalities
smiling out of billboards. And the funds for canvassing need never
be explained or accounted for. Nor will any other attributed
irregularities or impropriety, if the mothership deems it so.
All races are at a disadvantage when faced with the UMNO
privilege. None feel it more so than the Malays, who have long
seen themselves shortchanged by the organisation that they trust
their name to. Which is probably why the UMNO Youths unruly mob
at respective Chinese organisations just don't seem to garner up
much support from the Malay community. Because it couldn't be
for the privileges of the Malay that they seem to create such a
ruckus. No one posed any threat to that. They chose to make it a
threat themselves. Whatever their warped or perverse reasons for
the chutzpah, the Malays are not amused by being made an
excuse for their loutish display. That exhibition goes further to
show that UMNO is a liability not only to the Malays, but also to the
National Front, and in the final analysis, Malaysia. Is it time for an
Alternative Front?
