MEDIA STATEMENT OF AL HIZBUL ISLAMI UK & EIRE (HIZBI)
9th June 2001
Al Hizbul Islami UK & Eire (HIZBI) is deeply concerned with
the current political development in Malaysia regarding the use of
Internal Security Act (ISA) on certain opposition political leaders.
We strongly condemn any act of detaining citizen without lawful
trial and we urge the Home Affair Minister , Dato Seri Abdullah
Ahmad Badawi to release them or charge them in the court of law. We
also call the Government of Malaysia to abolish the act and uphold
the principles of democracy and justice.
HIZBI believe the real issue in this case is closely related
with the rift and maladministration in the government. The use of
the draconian law is partly as a strategy to divert the attention of
the public from the real issue. We urge the government to listen to
the justifications made by the Honourable Judge Mohd Hishamuddin Mohd Yunus of Shah Alam High Court in delivering the judgement of the two ISA
detainees recently.
On behalf of the Malaysian students in the United Kingdom, we
call the government to protect the basic human rights of the
citizens and be open to the criticisms for the benefit of the
country. We strongly support any lawful effort to release all the
ISA detainees.
